Understanding Your Costs in an Evolving Payment Environment
To assist health center finance and accounting staff in preparing for the transition to value-based payment and care, the Delta Center hosted a series of webinar trainings on Understanding Your Costs in an Evolving Payment Environment. These webinars were facilitated by Capital Link, a national, non-profit organization that specializes in helping health centers improve operations and financial management. Recorded webinars and slides are posted below.
WEBINAR #1: Cost Allocation: Getting the Basics Right
The first webinar provides a detailed review of the methodology for allocating costs in a fee-for-service accounting environment (direct, indirect, and overhead), and an introduction to how “costing” differs in a value-based system.
WEBINAR #2: Preparing Internal Systems for Gathering Cost Data
During this webinar, a former health center CFO provides insight into the ways health centers can set up charts of account, practice management systems, and HR/payroll systems to facilitate an accurate understanding of cost and capture cost data in a meaningful and flexible way.
WEBINAR #3: Cost Allocation Methodology for Value-Based Payment Systems
The third webinar discusses how to identify and calculate costs in a value-based reimbursement environment. Beginning with a high-level overview of value-based reimbursement concepts, we describe the methodologies for identifying costs related to care pathways and clinical outcomes, and provide examples that translate this effort into identifiable costs.
WEBINAR #4: Utilizing Cost Data to Drive Programmatic Change
The final webinar in our webinar series reviews the key takeaways from the first three sessions and apply these concepts to several scenarios in which health centers are seeking to understand their costs in an evolving reimbursement environment. We focus on how to model costs related to these scenarios and emphasize the use of this information for decision-making and guiding programmatic change.
